A life connected to the earth
We use the wisdom and techniques of the past to build environments where people and
nature exist in
harmony.
Wakuworks is an award-winning regenerative architecture firm founded by master architect Tomonori Waku
in
2005, and has active projects across Japan, from Hokkaido to Yakushima.
Wakuworks abides the principle that architectural
design and
nature must be in harmony
with one another to ensure beneficial and sustainable outcomes
for both people and
the
environments they rely upon for health and happiness.
Wakuworks goes beyond architectural design and seeks
and uses
local wisdom
to reconceptualize the modern relationship between structure and nature: the
firm’s architects,
engineers,
permaculture specialists, and other artist-technicians design and create not only buildings,
but gardens
and
agroforestry projects which support and are integrated with both Wakuworks structures
and the
land that
hosts them.
Wakuworks works to restore the flow of air, water and energy in the artificial concrete landscapes
which
constitute most
modern human dwellings, individual and collective.
The firm’s principles of sustainability and integration
mean that
they prioritize sustainably sourced local materials and replant trees and other fauna relocated due to
works.
For Wakuworks, this regenerative harmony supports a better human future.
